Youth Mobility Project for Intercultural Competencies
The project “Youth Work for Intercultural Competencies” aims to build intercultural competencies of young social workers from Portugal and Germany who work with migrant and refugee youth in their communities. The project includes two youth exchange training workshops where young social workers from Germany and Portugal will travel to Almada, Portugal and Bonn, Germany to attend training courses.
The main objectives of the project is to develop essential intercultural and social competencies of young people working with migrant groups so that they can provide better social services and support to disadvantage and marginalized young people. The training helps the participants to understand intercultural sensitivities and enhance their skills in working with young people from multiple cultural backgrounds.
In the training seminar in Almada, Portugal, young social workers had the opportunity to learn and share experience, opinions and give inputs about the different stages, objectives and design of the current mobility project. This first part of mobility applied a methodology of non-formal learning with lots of interactive discussion and brain-storming sessions. The outcome of the training course was first and foremost a better understanding of the design, objectives and components of the mobility project. We have also shared our good practices in intercultural competencies and learned how to deal with people coming from different cultural backgrounds.
Afro-women workshops
The main aim of this youth project is to develop the social entrepreneurship skills of young immigrant women with African background living in Europe as a way of increasing their social participation and inclusion. It aims to empower young women to overcome social, economic and political hindrances in the society they are living in through creating the opportunity for them to get connected to their creative self and each other so they can enhance their entrepreneurial capacity to solve sociatal problems.
In this regard, our organization in cooperation with African Diaspora Youth Platform in Germany organizes a training workshop to participate 20 young African and Afro/German women. Participants look for and find creative ways in solving some of the challenges they face in the society, especially social exclusion.
This four days workshop aims to inspire, empower and forge partnerships and friendships between young women in solidarity to increase their capacity and resources for increased social engagement and participation. It will eventually contribute to the organization and social inclusion of these young women and create the opportunity for them to exercise their creativity.
Once the participants map the challenges and the opportunities they face in their community, they look for solutions to overcome the outlined challenges and discuss ways to benefit from the existing opportunities.
Participants also learn how they can create social impact through social entrepreneurship and opportunity creation. Together they explore and discover how they can sustainably look for and exploit opportunities to create social change and build a social business models for sustainable engagement. Through practical and case exploration methods, participants in this workshop learn from others and each-others experiences.
The end product of this project is the establishment of an online resources bank, where these women will find the needed capacity building resources, tools and network for effective implementation of their social projects.
This youth entrepreneurship for sustainable social inclusion project is a part of the activities planed to strengthen the African Diaspora Youth Platform in Germany.
Self integration
This is an ongoing project that the organization undertakes on day to day basis. We have established a support mechanism for new young immigrants in their quest for better life in Germany. We provide translation, information, orientation and consulting. The next step in this process is facilitating conditions for them to improve their German language skills and succeed in their training and education. The third aspect of this project is facilitating the integration of the young African Diaspora in the German job market and benefit from a quality job opportunity that is readily available. So far we have documented over 70 cases where assistance was given by our organization.
Building Bridges
This project aims to bring former African immigrants and new immigrants together and facilitate long term relationship between them so that they can learn from each-others experience. The former immigrants who have successfully integrated themselves in to the community can give valuable advices to the new immigrants on how they can accomplish their objectives and improve their life in Germany. This valuable life lesson can bridge the gap between the former immigrants and new once and promote a longer relationship between them. It will also promote transfer of valuable resources for a better integration. We plan to organize successive events that will serve as a contact point for these groups and facilitate friendship and long term constructive relationship between these groups.
Integration through communication
The objective of this project is facilitating the communication between young immigrants and different institutions in Germany that they encounter in a day to day life and in the future. Lack of proper communication and interaction can lead to misunderstandings and suspicions that will hinder constructive relationships. More interactions between immigrants and institutions like (Police, Fire department, government offices) will facilitate cooperation between all to improve quality of life and create a more harmonic and peaceful communities. Within this project we will organize workshops, seminars and events and invite all stakeholders. We will also organize visits to the different government and non-government offices to increase interaction.
Training Seminar for Leaders of African Diaspora Youth in Germany
The main objective of the project is creating a stage for the African Diaspora youth leaders in Germany to come together and train themselves in ways to improve their capacity in undertaking social projects. Hence, to strengthen individual and organizational competences of participants to deal with important issues that affects their lives. Also this opportunity will be utilizes to develop a better understanding of the situation and overcome challenges faced by the African Diaspora youth in Germany. It will also discuss the opportunities, threats, weaknesses and strength of the African Diaspora youth in Germany in engaging in social advocacy and activism to improve its position in the German society. Furthermore, the projects aim to strengthen the role of young leaders of African background so that they become more active in constrictive social engagement and be more present in leading the African Diaspora groups in Germany. We empower and promote these participants to organize, take action and foster their social and political engagement in local, national and international issues that concern Germany, Europe and Africa.
